Water: The Universal Solvent
Water damage is one of the most common causes of structural damage in the United States.
Water cannot dissolve everything, but it can dissolve more substances than any other liquid. Given enough time, water damage destroys even steel and stone. In a typical residence or commercial building, water damage may do any (or all) of the following:
- Rust steel, other metal
- Shred textiles, including upholstery, window coverings, clothing, carpets
- Dissolve drywall and sheet rock
- Warp, weaken, or rot wood
- Delaminate wood or vinyl flooring
- Crack open the grout between tiles, causing the tiles to separate
- Weaken foundations
- Seep into concrete
- Damage electrical wiring
- Ruin appliances or major equipment
Adding to the Damage
Even the cleanest water allows mold and other microbial growth to flourish within 24 to 48 hours. This growth does damage on its own, including:
- Tenacious odors
- Ugly splotching that may be purple, pink, yellow, brown, gray, red, or black
- It literally feeds upon anything organic, including wood, drywall, paint, cotton, wool, and other fabrics
- May cause health effects
If the water damage did not come from clean water (such as from rain or sewage), mold may be present already. The solid and liquid materials in the non-clean water are unpleasant, and they are often damaging on their own.
SERVPRO of Murrieta Helps Restore Buildings and Belongings to A Pre-Loss Condition
Call us as soon as possible. We are local, so we can arrive quickly and begin assessments. We make sure that we will find and remediate all the damage, or (if there is damage that we do not remediate — such as wiring) explain what kinds of additional services are needed.
Count on to:
- Look for damage throughout the building, even hidden areas such as the subflooring or the HVAC
- Measure humidity so we can get rid of excess moisture within materials
- Remove excess water and lower the humidity
- Mitigate active mold (it is impossible to remove mold spores as they are everywhere)
- Clean and disinfect the structure and its contents, using hospital-grade materials and techniques
- Safely eliminate hazardous materials
- Remove odors
- Remove non-salvageable items (including drywall, sheetrock, textiles soaked by sewage)
- Replace flooring, drywall and sheetrock, ruined roof tiles
- Repair whatever can be salvaged
- Repaint
- Keep clients safe from biohazardous or chemically hazardous dust or other waste
