Protecting Your Home
The American Red Cross is encouraging people in southern California and Murrieta to prepare for winter weather by protecting our homes and making sure we are ready to face whatever storms and other natural events this winter season brings us. SERVPRO® of Murrieta has highly trained and experienced storm restoration technicians on call to restore property damaged by storms, no matter how big the job is. Here are some tips from the Red Cross on protecting your home for winter storms:
·Check to see that home heating sources are installed according to local codes and clean and in working order.
·Make sure to plug space heaters into the wall socket. Do not use an extension cord.
·Caulk and weather-strip doors and windowsills to keep cold air out.
·Cover windows with plastic from the inside to provide an extra layer of insulation to keep cold air out.
·Make sure your fireplace, and coal or wood-burning stoves are properly vented and in good working order.
·Dispose of ashes safely.
·Refuel kerosene heaters with the correct fuel for your unit. Refuel outdoors only and only use kerosene heaters where permitted by law. Make sure the area is properly ventilated.
·Be cautious of fire hazards when storing fuel of any kind.
