The Wildfire Season is Coming to California
Wildfire preparedness and safety have never been more important for California. Last year firefighters responded to over 52,113 wildfires that burned 8,889,297 acres in California.
SERVPRO® of Murrieta has been responding to fire damage emergencies for years in the Murrieta area, and we offer these landscaping tips from the National Fire Protection Association to increase your wildfire safety:
Tips for Landscaping Around Your Home
- REMOVE dead vegetation and other flammable materials, especially within the first five feet of the home
- KEEP your lawn hydrated and maintained. If it is brown, cut it down to help reduce fire intensity.
- PRUNE tree limbs so the lowest branches are six to ten feet above the ground to help reduce the chance of fire getting into the crowns of the trees
- MOVE construction material, trash, and woodpiles at least thirty feet away from the home and other outbuildings.
- DISPOSE of branches, weeds, leaves, pine needles, and grass clippings that you have cut to reduce fuel for fire
