Rainwater Intrusion Damages Murrieta Business During Recent Storm?

3/19/2024 (Permalink)

Raindrops and condensation cover a window in a commercial building. We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in Riverside County.

Our local Murrieta team is a trusted leader in commercial storm damage restoration services. Fast emergency response is imperative as water intrusion can wreak havoc on a commercial property, causing extensive and costly damage.

One of the most immediate and noticeable effects is structural damage. Water can weaken building materials, such as wood, drywall, and concrete, leading to rot, warping, and degradation. This can compromise the integrity of the property, necessitating expensive repairs.

Water can cause damage to electrical systems, posing a significant fire risk and resulting in the need for electrical rewiring or replacement of damaged components. In some cases, it can harm HVAC systems, causing them to malfunction or corrode, leading to unfavorable conditions and costly repairs.

Excess moisture provides an ideal breeding ground for mold and mildew, which can thrive in hidden areas, such as wall cavities and underflooring.

Water intrusion can damage inventory, equipment, and furnishings, resulting in financial losses for businesses. In retail and storage facilities, ruined merchandise can lead to substantial revenue loss.

Cooler Temperatures: While the region enjoys relatively mild winter temperatures compared to many other parts of the country, winter storms can bring cooler weather. Daytime temperatures are generally cooler than in the summer, and nighttime temperatures can drop significantly.

Mountain Snow: Nearby mountain regions, such as the San Jacinto and San Bernardino Mountains, can receive significant snowfall during winter storms.

Wind: Strong winds are a possibility during winter storms in Southern California. High winds can affect travel and may lead to downed trees or power outages.

Murrieta Hot Springs Residents Are Weatherproofing Homes Before Winter?

11/7/2023 (Permalink)

A person is caulking a leaking window to prevent water intrusion. We restore storm damage 24 hours a day in Riverside County.

Is your Murrieta Hot Springs home ready to withstand winter storms? Our local Murrieta team responds to storm damage emergencies throughout the year. Water intrusion occurs when water enters the interior of a structure from an outside water source. Here are some things that can be done to minimize the chances of water intrusion issues in your home or business:

Conduct routine checks of your home's exterior, including the roof, siding, and foundation, to identify and address potential vulnerabilities. Replace damaged shingles, seal gaps in siding, and patch cracks in the foundation promptly. Clean gutters and downspouts to ensure they are free from debris and allow proper water drainage. These preventative actions can stop water from seeping into your home.

Additionally, check to make sure your yard and landscaping are designed to divert water away from your home. Proper grading around the foundation should slope away from the house to encourage water runoff. Install a French drain or a similar drainage system if your property has drainage issues. Additionally, use plants and mulch to prevent soil erosion, which can lead to water infiltration.

Fires, Floods, and Mudslides in One Week in Riverside County?

10/17/2022 (Permalink)

Mud covers the ground. We restore storm damage 24-hours a day in Murrieta Hot Springs.

Our team in Murrieta has seen some pretty bad storms over the years, but nothing to compare with the onslaught of fire and storm events that hit Riverside County last month. Murrieta Hot Springs residents were notified of potential evacuations.

First came the Fairview fire that burned over 28,000 acres of Riverside County, threatening 78,000 nearby homes. That same week, Tropical Storm Kay, previously categorized as a hurricane, blew up the coast of Baja, California, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning. Mudslides caused the closing of Highway 38 in the San Bernadino mountains.

In an article published by the New York Times, Shane Reichardt, a Riverside County’s Emergency Management Department spokesman, explained that the fire makes the soil hydrophobic. It doesn’t absorb water like it usually does, and there is no vegetation to hold the soil in place. So,  it increases the possibility of mud debris flow.

Fortunately, the Fairview fire was suppressed by Tropical Strom Kay, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Heat Stroke Prevention Tips for Murrieta Pets?

9/20/2022 (Permalink)

A dog wearing sunglasses cools off in the grass on a hot day. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Riverside County.

September is a hot month in Murrieta. Our team in Murrieta offers this information for keeping pets safe from heat stroke from the American Animal Hospital Association:

What are heatstroke signs in pets?

As you enjoy a game of fetch or frisbee with your pooch, keep a close eye on her for overheating signs, such as:

  • Excessive panting
  • Excessive drooling
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea, with or without blood
  • Weakness
  • Incoordination or stumbling
  • Sudden collapse
  • Seizures

Act immediately if your pet displays any of these signs. Once your pet begins to overheat, heatstroke progresses quickly.

Ways to prevent heatstroke

Consider the possibility of heatstroke any time the temperature is above 80 degrees or humidity is high, and take these precautions to keep your pet cool:

  • Never leave your pet unsupervised outside on hot days. While you are away, keep your pet indoors with air conditioning.
  • While outside, ensure your pet has access to fresh water, shade, and shelter away from direct sunlight
  • Take your daily walk or jog in the morning before temperatures reach dangerous levels.
  • Never leave your pet alone in a parked car. Heat quickly builds to deadly levels in a closed car, even on sunny days that aren’t hot.
  • On hot days, keep brachycephalic breeds, elderly and obese pets, and those with heart or lung disease inside your air-conditioned home except for short outdoor bathroom breaks.

Murrieta Creek Flooding Murrieta Residents?

6/21/2022 (Permalink)

A creek has overflown its banks. You can count on us to respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Riverside County.

Our Murrieta team restores storm damage every year in the Murrieta area. The City of Murrieta’s website offers information on safety threats for the region. According to the city’s report on flood hazards, Murrieta lies within the inland portion of the Santa Margarita River Basin. Murrieta Creek and Temecula Creek are the main tributaries of the Santa Margarita River. Murrieta Creek drains approximately 220 square miles of the upper watershed, runs through the Murrieta Valley, and flows through a portion of the city between Interstate 15 and the base of the Santa Rosa Plateau. Stream flows for Murrieta Creek vary, and flooding frequently occurs in Historic Murrieta.

Flooding Safety Tips

After any water damage situation, your primary focus should be safety first:

  • Is it safe to stay in the house?
  • Electrical and “slip and fall” hazards are some of the most prevalent concerns
  • Only do activities that are safe for you to perform
  • Wet materials can be VERY heavy. Be careful!

What NOT To Do After Flooding

  • Don’t leave wet fabrics in place. Hang furs and leather goods.
  • Don’t leave books, magazines, or other colored items on wet carpets or floors
  • Don’t use your household vacuum to remove water
  • Don’t use television or other household appliances
  • Don’t turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet, and keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging

Storms Causing Pet Anxiety in Murrieta Hot Springs?

A dog and a cat huddle underneath a blanket during a thunderstorm. We restore storm damage 24-hours a day in Riverside County.

The last thunderstorm brought heavy rain and wind to Murrieta Hot Springs. The thunder and lightning were frightening to many of our furry friends. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) offers some great tips for managing your pet’s anxiety during a thunderstorm:

How to Help a Scared Pet

The good news is there are lots of things you can do at home to help your pet. Please remember that one thing does not work for all pets—so keep trying and see what works for them.

  • Keep calm! Your dog is aware of your emotions; they are more likely to get upset if you are.
  • Let them hide. If they prefer to stay under the bed, in a closet or bathroom, let them stay there.
  • If your pet does not have a place to hide, consider creating a safe place for them. Interior rooms where there is less noise or flashes of light are a good place to start.
  • Try distracting your pet by playing games. You can turn on the TV, play soft music, or give them a food puzzle or kong filled with their favorite item are all great ways to distract your pet.
  • Anxiety vests or shirts may also help your pet feel calmer

The storm that blew through southern California and Murrieta in November sure did a number on my house. The high winds blew over a tree from my neighbors’ yard that landed on part of my house but fortunately only managed to take out a couple of windows and part of the roof. The damage happened in the early morning hours, and I called SERVPRO® of Murrieta.

They arrived on site quickly, boarded up the broken windows, and tarped the roof's damaged part to prevent rain from getting inside the house. Then they removed the broken glass and tree debris from around the perimeter of my house. After the tree was removed from my roof and taken away, they returned and completed the rest of the restoration work. In a few days, my house looked just like it did before the storm damage!

Roof Damage in Murrieta Hot Springs?

6/23/2020 (Permalink)

High winds have torn off some shingles from a roof. Let us repair your storm damage in Murrieta.

High Winds Equal Wind Damage

Have you checked the condition of your roof lately? Recent high winds in the Murrieta and Riverside areas created the perfect conditions for roof damage. According to the website, Inspectapedia.com, in addition to the tell-tale signs of missing roof shingles, high winds can curl the edges of roof shingles, compromising the protective coating and weakening the edges so they no longer lay flat and protect the underlayment below. A damaged roof can allow water intrusion and pests to access the damaged structure. SERVPRO® of Murrieta wants you to know that when your home or business experiences storm damage, we are ready to respond and can usually be onsite within 60 minutes of your call.

Highly Trained

We are proud of our team of highly trained technicians. All of our new hires are required to participate in initial intensive training and exams through our corporate headquarters. We also provide continuous training and certification opportunities to ensure that our team is kept up to speed on industry standards and best practices as set by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification.

storm clouds rolling in When storms are brewing, SERVPRO of (Franchise) will be there

When storms are brewing, we may not think destruction is headed our way but sometimes the inevitable happens in Murrieta. While storms can be beautiful, they can turn deadly in just moments. Being prepared will help minimize harm to people and bring less damage to your property. If you find yourself in the aftermath of a storm, let SERVPRO of Murrieta turn your chaos back to normal.

A few ways to prepare for a storm with strong winds are:

  •     Have a flashlight readily available in case of a power outage
  •     Board up windows and doors ahead of time, if possible
  •     Secure loose items
  •     Have an emergency kit ready including non-perishable foods and water
  •     Make a plan ahead of time so your family will know what to do

Your local meteorologists will monitor the weather conditions in your area keeping you informed on what type of storm is happening. A storm Watch indicates they are watching for formations of specific types (flooding, severe thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes, etc.)  A storm warning means there are property and life-threatening conditions occurring so you should take precautions.

Once the storm has subsided in Murrieta, please continue to be careful walking about your structure as there could be loose debris, and compromised structures, etc. Wear boots, and gloves to help protect yourself but above all call the professionals at SERVPRO of Murrieta to make your loss “Like it never even happened.”
